Wilson Home Remodel in Salt Lake City: Reworking a Difficult Layout into a Warm, Functional Home

The Wilson home remodel in Salt Lake City started with a layout that simply didn’t work. Two bedrooms were connected by a pass-through doorway, the entry to the back room was awkwardly located near the back door, and the basement was completely unlivable, one of those spaces that made you wonder, “What’s even going on down there?”

This project was all about correcting flow, improving livability, and giving the home a layout that finally made sense.

Relocating the Upstairs Bathroom to Improve Flow

The first major obstacle was the upstairs bathroom. By relocating the bathroom to the west side of the home, we unlocked the ability to create a true hallway. This change added much-needed storage and established a natural, intuitive entrance to the back room, eliminating the awkward circulation that plagued the original design.

Creating a Master Suite Within Plumbing Constraints

Given the limitations of the home’s main plumbing line, converting the middle bedroom into the master suite became the most practical and effective solution. This decision allowed us to maximize space without costly plumbing reroutes.

The new his-and-hers bathroom added comfort and functionality, an essential upgrade for homeowners who value personal space and thoughtful design.

Raising the Ceiling for Volume and Visual Impact

Originally, the home had a simple square layout that felt tight and flat. One of the most impactful upgrades was pitching the ceiling, instantly increasing the perceived volume of the space and making the home feel larger and more open.

To anchor the room visually, the hood vent was intentionally designed as a central focal point, with decorative beams converging at its center. This created a strong line of sight and gave the room a sense of balance and purpose.

Garage and Exterior Remodel for Better Curb Appeal

The exterior had its own challenges. The garage featured two mismatched doors, creating an unattractive street-facing view. Removing them and installing a custom garage door dramatically improved the home’s appearance from the curb.

Before the remodel, curb appeal was a sore spot. Building a realistic budget that allowed for a comprehensive exterior facelift was essential to finishing the project the right way.

A Warm, Earth-Toned Finish That Ties It All Together

The final exterior design used natural, earth-toned colors to give the home a warm, welcoming presence. Combined with the new garage and layout improvements, the Wilson home went from confusing and closed-off to cohesive and inviting.
